Ready for Superhero Maths?
Use the Wonder Woman timer, and choose a superhero to test yourself over a set period of time. To truly be a hero, try to answer all questions in less than 5 minutes. Superheroes can do it in 4! However, even managing to get all the questions correct on your own in any time limit is a success. Good luck!

YEAR FIVE
Curriculum
Spring Term English – Rooftoppers
This term, our English learning is based on the exciting novel Rooftoppers. The story follows Sophie, a brave girl who believes her mother is still alive after a shipwreck. With the help of a kind scholar and a group of adventurous children who live on rooftops in Paris, Sophie sets off on an unforgettable journey.
Through this book, children will explore themes of courage, friendship and believing in yourself, while developing their reading, writing and discussion skills through creative and thoughtful activities.

Maths – Spring 1
This half term in maths, Year 5 will begin by exploring fractions. Children will learn to recognise and compare fractions, find equivalent fractions and understand how fractions relate to whole numbers. They will use number lines, diagrams and practical resources to help deepen their understanding.
We will also practise explaining our thinking clearly and solving problems that involve fractions in real-life contexts, helping pupils to build confidence and accuracy in their maths learning.
Science – Materials
In science, children will be learning about materials and their properties. They will investigate different materials such as wood, metal, plastic and glass, and explore what makes them suitable for different uses.
Pupils will test and compare materials based on properties like hardness, flexibility, waterproofing and transparency, and learn how materials can change. Through hands-on experiments and investigations, children will develop their skills in observing, predicting and recording results like real scientists.
Theme – Europe (Geography/History)
This term, our theme is Europe, where children will explore the countries that make up this fascinating continent. They will learn to locate European countries and capital cities on maps, identify key physical and human features, and compare different regions of Europe.
Pupils will also discover how climates, landscapes and cultures vary across Europe and make links to everyday life. Through map work, research and discussion, children will develop strong geographical skills and a better understanding of the wider world.
