Spellings & Times-tables: tested on Fridays

Homework: Please complete BOTH the Maths and SPaG homework by Wednesday each week.

PE Days: PE Kit on Thursdays and Fridays

Remember to read several times a week and record in diaries.

Autumn Term English:

This term, Year 6 will be exploring Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo. Evacuated from London, David and Tucky are sent to the quiet safety of the Devon countryside. Life on the farm is peaceful, and the war feels a world away—until a German bomber crashes on the moors nearby.When one of the enemy airmen saves David’s life, the boys are faced with an impossible choice. Caught between the duty to report the hidden soldiers and the urge to protect the men who helped them, David and Tucky must navigate a dangerous secret. We will be using this text to inspire our writing. This will include diary entries, descriptions and newspaper reports.

Autumn Term Maths:

In Maths this term, Year 6 will be focusing on consolidating knowledge of all four operations. We will learn how to solve increasingly challenging problems involving these. Knowing all times tables is really important in Year 6 as these help us in many other areas of our Maths knowledge. Please make sure homework is completed on Maths.co.uk each week.

Autumn Term Science:

In Science this term, Year 6 will be learning about Light before October half term and Electricity after October half term. In light we will:

recognise that light appears to travel in straight lines
use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye
explain that we see things because light travels from light sources to our eyes or from light sources to objects and then to our eyes
use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them

We have lots of fun investigations to complete for both of our units over the October half term.

Autumn Term History and Geography:

This term, Year 6 will be studying World War Two with the enquiry question: What impact did the Second World War have on Nantwich and the surrounding areas. We will look at how and why the war began and think about how the lives of the people of Britain were changed during this time. We will then look at the geography of our local area from the 1940s to now and compare what has changed and why.
